I have noticed that several sites advertise the Lee Jurras Auto Mag, but no one ever advertises the damage it does. After researching the gun for a while, I think I have finally found a realistic damage converted to cyberpunk terms.
PST +1 J P .44AutoMag (6D6-2) 7+1 2 VR 100m 650eb
This is only my attempt to make it realistic compared to the real guns, but for you math nuts out there, I’ll give you the process I used so you can come up with your own system for it’s damage.
First I went to the target range, and asked around until I found someone who used to own one. Then I asked him to compare the knockdown of his Auto Mag to a standard .44 magnum. He said it was about 50% more powerful, then allowing for his boasting I guessed it was actually about 40% more powerful. Then I looked at the damage a .44 mag does in CP. 4D6 is a maximum of 24 damage, times 1.4 (40% more powerful) and got 33.6 (round up to 34) Then found the best D6 conversion I could and I came up with 6D6-2. If anyone sees any problems with my math please let me know.
Also another thing I noted was in real life when the .44 auto mag was available, there was almost no ammunition produced for it. The only way to get ammunition was to make your own. What you did was you went to the range, got some old 7.62 NATO brass, cut it off where it necks down and then put a .44 mag head on it. In game terms it means you first have to have some equipment to cut the brass, then you have to have a weapon smith high enough to actually make the bullets on your own, not to mention you need a source of 7.62 NATO brass.
This is not to scare characters away from using the gun, on the contrary I rather like when my characters do unexpected and exotic things, It is just so GMs don’t get taken for fools and allow their characters to go to the local sporting goods store and buy a couple boxes of ammo.
BTW I think it is a wise thing to point out, I give my characters a bonus when threatening NPCs with this gun because it is a horribly mean looking gun. (At least +2 intimidation usually)
